David Bowie's Son Fulfills Duty, Remembers His Late Father in Meaningful Tribute

Share

Almost two years have gone by since David Bowie, 69, passed away on Jan. 10, 2016. The star succumbed to liver cancer, which he battled quietly for 18 months.

Bowie’s son, film director Duncan Jones, has recently announced a new way for fans to remember Bowie.

Fans can pay tribute to the musical legend in a way that would leave Bowie grinning with approval.

Of course, everyone remembers Bowie for his legendary entertainment career. But not everybody knows that Bowie was an avid reader, eating up novels with a voracious appetite.

“My dad was a beast of a reader,” Jones wrote on Twitter.

“I’ve been feeling a building sense of duty to go on the same literary marathon in tribute to dad.”

So if you’re intrigued by the idea of discovering some of Bowie’s favorite novels, buckle up your seat belt. Jones has a gift for your brain, and the fun starts right now.

Jones announced the beginning of an online book club, free to anyone who wants to participate.

The first novel “Bowie Book Club” members will tackle is “Hawksmoor,” by Peter Ackroyd.

“Anyone can join!” Jones declared on Twitter. “More the merrier.”

David Bowie’s top 100 book list was published on his website on Oct. 2013.

Whether or not the Bowie Book Club holds fast to the list remains to be seen.

Among Bowie’s favorite reads are “A Clockwork Orange,” by Anthony Burgess, “As I Lay Dying,” by William Faulkner, and “The Great Gatsby,” by F. Scott Fitzgerald. The full list can be found here.

Fans are getting excited about the idea of rekindling their love for leisure reading.

“On the journey with you!” wrote one Twitter user.

Many agree that Jones’ idea is the perfect way to pay tribute to the late Bowie. Interested readers have until Feb. 1 to complete the first book — enjoy!
