Mom of 7 Killed in Crash, 'Guardian Angel' Trucker Saves 4 Kids Still Trapped in Car

Most of us try to go into a new year with a positive mindset, but sadly, 2018 has already gotten off to a rough start for some people.

A family from Odessa, Texas can attest to this heartbreaking reality after tragedy struck just one day before the new year.

On Sunday, Dec. 31, a 28-year-old mom and four of her children were heading home for the night after visiting family for Christmas in El Paso. However, they had an unfortunate journey ahead of them.

According to CBS 7, Elisabeth Valenzuela hit an icy patch on the road and lost control. The car flipped several times before coming to a complete stop.

The mom-of-seven ejected from the vehicle and was tragically killed upon impact. As for her children, they survived but were left helpless inside the wrecked vehicle.

Valenzuela’s brother Mike Martinez said the children, ages 1, 3, 4, and 5, were stranded in a secluded and dark area with no one to help. Fortunately, a “guardian angel” trucker came across the tragedy and was able to save the kids.

“Luckily he saw there was an issue and he phoned it in,” Martinez said, trying to fight back his tears. “Otherwise those poor kids, I don’t know how long they were out there for, but 10 degree weather, who knows how long they would’ve lasted.

“If you’re listening to this, thank you very much, you saved the four little ones that were in there,” he continued, addressing the trucker.

Miraculously, the kids only sustained minor scrapes and bruises from the crash. They were eventually reunited with the rest of their family on Monday.

Valenzuela and her children were preparing to move back to El Paso in a few weeks. The kids are now being cared for by their mother’s family.

On New Year’s Day, seven little ones were without their mom, but they were surrounded by love and family.

Martinez has since set up a GoFundMe account to pay for funeral expenses and to support Valenzuela’s children.

“I say this all the time, just hold on to your loved ones for as long as you can,” Martinez said. “Your New Year’s resolution should be to spend more time with family.”

The little time that Valenzuela had on this earth she spent with her children. And according to her brother, she wouldn’t have had it any other way.

Martinez believed that his sister’s love for her seven babies is what made her a truly awesome mom.

“Her family was number one, she loved her kids, she took care of them, she spoiled them in every way she could and they knew that she loved them,” he said.
