Tiger Woods To Receive Presidential Medal of Freedom from Trump Following Masters Win
President Donald Trump says he will present Tiger Woods with the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
Woods won his fifth Masters title Sunday, overcoming personal and professional adversity to once more claim the green jacket.

On both a personal and professional level, Woods’ triumph on Sunday was powerful.
It was especially emotional when juxtaposing Woods’ respective embraces with his father and son at his first and latest Masters win.
After Tiger Woods won his first Masters in 1997, he embraced his father, Earl.

Trump tweeted Monday that he spoke to Woods and congratulated him on “the great victory” and “to inform him that because of his incredible Success & Comeback in Sports (Golf) and, more importantly, LIFE, I will be presenting him with the PRESIDENTIAL MEDAL OF FREEDOM!”
Spoke to @TigerWoods to congratulate him on the great victory he had in yesterday’s @TheMasters, & to inform him that because of his incredible Success & Comeback in Sports (Golf) and, more importantly, LIFE, I will be presenting him with the PRESIDENTIAL MEDAL OF FREEDOM!

Immediately following Tiger’s win, Trump took to Twitter to congratulate the five-time Masters champion and call him “a truly Great champion.”

The president is an avid golfer who played a round with Woods at Trump’s golf club in Jupiter, Florida, in February.
Trump watched the Masters from his Virginia golf club on Sunday and, as he often does, took to Twitter to comment on the event.
Watching final hole of @TheMasters. @TigerWoods is looking GREAT!

Great Masters going on right now. @TigerWoods is leading with 2 holes left to play. Very exciting, tune in!

Of note, the president likely didn’t need to tell anyone to tune in. According to CBS, Woods’ Sunday performance was a major ratings driver, the likes of which not seen in 34 years.

Trump didn’t say when a ceremony will be held. The medal is the nation’s highest honor for a civilian.
