NFL Legend Hospitalized for Cancer Testing: 'I Am Terrified'
Dallas Cowboys legend Michael Irvin is undergoing tests for throat cancer.
The Hall of Fame wide receiver revealed the news in an Instagram post Tuesday in which he said his throat and voice problems started in late November and persisted for two months.
“After visiting some of the best throat Doctors they thought it to be wise to take a deeper look at the situation. So we schedule and performed a throat biopsy,” Irvin wrote about his visit to UCLA Medical Center.
Irvin said his father died at 51 years old due to throat cancer so having this problem pop up has him “terrified.”
“So saying I am afraid this time is a big big understatement,” wrote Irvin, who is 53. “I AM TERRIFIED!! My Faith tells me whenever you face great fear you go to your greatness power. Mine is God. I am asking all who will. Could you please send up a prayer to help my family and I deal with whatever the results may be?
“Thanks for your thoughts and prayers in advance. I will continue to pray for your fams protection and prosperity as well. May God Bless us all”
Numerous friends, fans, co-workers and former teammates sent their well wishes to Irvin, including the other two “triplets” from the Cowboys’ 1990s dynasty.
“8-22-88 4 life. We have and we will continue to (pray) for you and your family my brother,” running back Emmitt Smith wrote in response to Irvin’s post.
“Lots of love and support for you Irv – sending prayers my man!” quarterback Troy Aikman said.
My wife just gave me the awful news about my guy Michael Irvin and potentially having throat cancer . Please join me and pray for him and his family. Life comes at you fast #Playmaker

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones learned of Irvin’s situation shortly after a meeting of NFL owners and vowed to reach out to “The Playmaker.”
Owner Jerry Jones was informed after NFL annual meeting broke late Tuesday afternoon that Michael Irvin fears he has throat cancer. “I’ll talk to him immediately,” Jones said. “That’s very concerning. Very.”

Irvin used his hands to become a Hall of Fame player, but he uses his voice for his current job as a broadcaster.
He works as an analyst for the NFL Network, where he can be seen on “NFL GameDay Morning” every Sunday during the season.
Irvin is also an analyst for “GameDay” on Thursdays as well as a frequent contributor to the network’s staple show, “Total Access.”
Irvin, Smith and Aikman won three Super Bowls together with Dallas during the 1990s. All three are also Hall of Famers with Irvin being inducted in before the 2007 season.
