Red Sox Mock Yankees During Post-Game Celebration
Start spreading the news … the Boston Red Sox are going to the American League Championship Series.
After the Sox survived a rocky ninth inning to hold off the Yankees 4-3 and win the AL Divisional Series 3-1, they celebrated by playing a song synonymous with Yankee victories, “New York, New York” by Frank Sinatra.

It’s not that they aren’t planning on “Shipping Up to Boston” for the ALCS, it was just more to mock the Bronx Bombers, who play “New York, New York” throughout Yankee Stadium after every Yankees win.
More specifically, it was likely a shot at New York slugger Aaron Judge, who was blaring “New York, New York,” as he walked past the Red Sox clubhouse after the Yankees beat the Sox 6-2 Saturday night at Fenway to even the series at 1-1.

Injured Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia brought Judge’s choice of music to the attention of manager Alex Cora and it became a rallying point for the Sox.
“When Dustin brought it up, I said, ‘Well, they know it happened,'” Cora said after the clincher, reported Boston’s WEEI. “I don’t know if they took it personal, but it’s just, I don’t know, if we played ‘Dirty Water’ at Yankee Stadium, and they would have clinched in Fenway, they would have played ‘Dirty Water’ in their clubhouse.”
After that loss at Fenway, the Sox blasted the Yankees 16-1 in Game 3 in Boston and then closed out the Yankees 4-3 in New York.
Cora said it’s nothing personal, and he had high praise for Judge.

“He’s a good kid. He’s a good player, one of the best in the game,” Cora said, according to WEEI. “He’s one of those guys that can become the face of baseball. From afar, I really enjoy watching him play, not when he’s playing against us. So he’s good for baseball. Nothing personal with him.”
It’s a lesson learned for Judge — don’t poke the bear.
“I think he made a huge mistake playing the Sinatra ‘New York, New York’ as you go by the Red Sox clubhouse,” said former Yankee first baseman Mark Teixeira Wednesday morning on ESPN’s “Get Up!”
“You woke a sleeping giant. Aaron Judge has no rings. And I have a ton of respect for Aaron Judge, I think he will have rings. But when you boast — when you wake a sleeping giant in Boston — on your way out back to Yankee Stadium and then get your butts kicked two games in a row, I just think that you might want to let your bat do the talking. Because Aaron Judge’s bat will talk,” Teixeira said.
The Sox will host Houston Saturday night in Game 1 of the ALCS.
