The real reason Tom Brady's documentary got delayed shows just how arrogant he is

In fairness to the New England Patriots and future Hall of Famer Tom Brady, both had ample reason to think they would win Super Bowl LII.

After all, the Patriots were about to face a Philadelphia Eagles team missing their top quarterback and New England was the defending Super Bowl champions.

Of course, the history books will show that the Eagles pulled off the upset, winning 41-33 against the vaunted Patriots.

While upsets are a way of life in the NFL, the Eagles upsetting the Patriots in Super Bowl LII was still a bit of a shocker. After all, one of Bill Belichick’s coaching tenets has been to never look ahead of a given opponent and to take one game at a time.

Considering how long and fruitful their working relationship has been for the last 18 years, you’d think Brady in particular would exemplify Belichick’s mantras.

Apparently, Brady chose the worst possible time to overlook an opponent. His Facebook documentary series “Tom vs. Time” had been chronicling Brady’s everyday life as he tries to stay an effective NFL quarterback going into his 40s.

Despite being a bit of a self-serving publicity stunt, it’s actually an interesting look into the life of a man who maniacally prioritizes football above virtually everything else.

So when the latest episode didn’t drop as scheduled, some wondered what had happened.

Turns out, Brady’s documentary had to be completely reworked because the latest episode featured scenes that were filmed under the assumption that the Patriots would win Super Bowl LII.

Yes, Brady considered the biggest game of the NFL season as a mere formality when it came to “Tom vs. Time.”

And no, that isn’t speculation or assumption — it’s an admission directly from “Tom vs. Time” filmmaker Gotham Chopra.

“Everyone keeps asking me about Chapter 6 of ‘Tom vs Time’ and when it’s going to be ready,” Chopra wrote on Facebook. “The truth is we had a plan, but unconsciously, it was tied to the Pats winning the Super Bowl and, when that didn’t happen (congrats, Eagles!), I felt like we needed to pause and recalibrate.”

From the sounds of it, Chopra seemed to have plans to paint Brady as the heroic fighter who had to overcome some good teams and a hand injury in his playoff run.

“While we have amazing stuff from the playoff run, Tom’s hand injury and the great comeback in the AFC Championship, once the Super Bowl played out, I started to wonder the relevance of all that other stuff and determined that we really needed one final exit interview with our guy before we could figure out what Chapter 6 was truly going to be about,” Chopra said.

Chopra also provided an update on Brady’s frame of mind following the Super Bowl loss.

“Tom was both reflective and upbeat, very present and disappointed in last Sunday’s loss, while also gracious toward the Eagles for their impressive victory and already unpacking everything to find the lesson in it,” said Chopra.

The “Tom vs. Time” filmmaker promised the sixth episode of the documentary would be coming soon.
