Breaking News: 33-Year-Old Star from 'The Voice' Dies Suddenly
Janice Freeman, 33-year-old vocal star and contestant on NBC’s “The Voice,” died on Saturday, March 2.
“We are heartbroken to report that Janice Marie Freeman passed away on March 2, 2019 from an extreme case of pneumonia and a blood clot that traveled to her heart,” Freeman’s team wrote in a statement.
“While at home her husband Dion performed CPR until the ambulance arrived. She passed away at a local hospital shortly after.”
Freeman rose to fame in 2017 as a contestant on “The Voice.” She was a member of Miley Cyrus’ team and made it to the top 11 before being eliminated.
According to People, Cyrus and Freeman kept in touch after the season, and in 2018, Freeman shared that Cyrus helped her out financially as she and her family searched for a place to live.
Choosing a photo of a rainbow set against a gray sky, Cyrus wrote a short tribute to the singer on social media.
“Thank you @janicefreeman for everything,” Cyrus wrote. “This represents you perfectly.”
Freeman had battled a host of health problems over the years, including lupus, cervical cancer and meningitis.
When Freeman decided to enter “The Voice,” she had hoped to use the money as a way to provide stability for her young daughter Hannah, who was born when Freeman was 21.
Hannah’s father died when she was just 4 years old, and in 2012, she watched as her mother fought cervical cancer.
“A survivor and fighter, and a beautiful force in this world, Janice gained notoriety through her success on NBC’s The Voice as a member of Miley Cyrus’s team,” her team said in a statement.
“Her story inspired fans nationwide, having successfully battled cervical cancer and living her life to the fullest while fighting lupus.”
“Her friends and family greatly appreciate your prayers, calls, and texts during this time, and ask that they be given space to remember everything that Janice was to them as they process and mourn her loss.”
Freeman leaves behind her husband Dion, daughter Hannah and mother Janice. Our prayers go out for her family and friends during this tragic time.
